Hello my name is Juan Carlos Quintanilla Jara. I’m studying the last semester of medicine in Saltillo’s Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomic University of Coahuila, and I will graduate the next year. During my five years of medical training, I had the chance to enroll in clinical rotations in several hospitals inside Saltillo, which include: Obstetrics, Emergency, Otolaryngology Nuclear Medicine, Dermatology, Internal Medicine, ICU, Oncology and Surgery Departments of Saltillo’s University Hospital; Saltillo’s Red Cross Emergency Department; Endocrinology, Orthopedic, Trauma, Neurology, Cardiology, Obstetrics, Surgery, Internal Medicine and Emergency Departments of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (Clinics No. 1,2 and 73); Pediatrics, Emergency, Surgery, Imagenology and Internal Medicine Departments of the Institute of Security and Social Services of the State Employees; Obstetrics Department of Saltillo’s General Hospital; Otolaryngology Department of Santa María Clinic; Nephrology and Dialysis Departments of La Concepción Medical Center and Psychiatric Department of Mental Health Regional Center.

My hobbies are writing poetry and songs, watching movies, reading (medical and non-medical books as well), and photography.

I have had several jobs on the past, which include: Regional Manager of Employee Training, Marketing and Human Resources at Burger King, Store Manager of Employee training at Kentucky Fried Chicken and, more related to my studies, Pharmacist and Medical Practitioner at People’s Pharmacy & Clinic (A Government’s project for people without social security or insurance). Actually, I’ve been working and studying since I was 12 (on informal jobs, like at a stationer’s shop, construction, etc. ), because my family have never had the money to send me and my sister to school.

On June or July of next year, I will graduate and I will continue my training as a Medical Intern in a local hospital for one year; then I will be send to a rural community of the state to provide medical service for people who are unable to go to the city to get them. My biggest desire is to have the opportunity to participate in a clinical program, in which I can have the chance to perform my internship at a hospital in the U.S. That will give me a lot of experience practicing English, as well as the development of my clinical skills and to have an overview of the way the medicine is practiced in other parts of the world. After that, I would like to continue my medical education in the area of Endovascular Surgery, but I still don’t know if focused on Cardiology or Neurology.

Hoping this information work for the desired purposes, I remain expectant for any questions or doubts.

Sincerely,

Juan Carlos Quintanilla Jara

Hello, my name is Barbara Gutierrez. Both of my parents are engineers and I have two sisters. My education has a solid foundation in the Catholic Church which has influenced the strong character and personality that I have today. I believe that my faith has played a large role in encouraging me to appreciate and value my family. As a result of following my heart, I have genuine passion not only for my professional career but also for my personal growth. Learning about different cultures, gastronomy and languages (especially Chinese Mandarin) reinforces my appreciation of what comprises a society and what makes and individual unique.

After graduating in 2008 from the University of Monterrey, I had the opportunity to be involved in the private and public health sectors in Monterrey, Mexico. Those experiences allowed me to continue my education in very different environments, making me a well-rounded doctor. I have been an MD at a small clinic, a family practitioner, a medical translator and scribe at Medviks Telehealth where I am currently the Medical Director. I am in the process of earning certification in the United States for a position in an Emergency Medicine residency program, with a concentration in Toxicology.

Regardless of where I go, what keeps me going is perseverance, dedication and sincere belief in my father’s motto: “There is always a way.”

Hello, my name is Daniela Hinojosa.  I was born and raised in Tampico, Tamaulipas. Given that my mother is a doctor, I have spent a significant amount of time inside hospitals and clinics. In 2004, I moved to Monterrey, Mexico to study biopharmaceutical chemistry at the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon. After finishing my first year with an overall average of greater than 90% in all my classes, I was not satisfied with that field of the health industry.

Nonetheless, I still desired to pursue a career in the health industry and decided that the alternative was to pursue a different avenue. After applying to medical school at the University of Monterrey (Universidad de Monterrey), I had the opportunity to rotate at various hospitals during my formative years within the state of Nuevo Leon. These hospitals belonged to the Mexican Institute of Social Security and offer specialized care to the northwestern region of Mexico.

After graduating from the University of Monterrey Medical School in 2010, I underwent a one-year internship at the IMSS #17. The following year, I completed my social service in a clinic located in Linares, just outside Monterrey. I provided primary care for the inhabitants of that region as well as working in conjunction with specialists in a nearby hospital. I completed my social service in August of 2012.

My plan is to apply for a residency in OBGYN and begin a new chapter in my life

My name is David Alejandro Cardona Estrada. I just graduated from the Universidad de Monterrey’s School of Medicine last Wednesday. During my medical training, I was the president of the Medicine Student Government Association from August 2009 to June 2010, PR of the Student Government Association of the University from 2010 to 2011, member of the 4th generation of the Honor Program, and member of “JALPEM” an altruist association which performs preventive medical brigades to poor towns around Monterrey.

I also had the possibility to do a 1 year clinical rotation at the “Hospital de St Pau y St Creu”, through an exchange program with the “Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona”, in Barcelona, Spain, from July 2011 to July 2012. During the year I was living in Barcelona, I worked for 6 months in the Clinical Research Organization, “Clever Instruments”, as a Medical writer. Also, I was part of a program named “viure y conviure”, in which I lived and took care of a 95 year old lady for 5 months.

Since August 2012, I have been performing my year of Medical Social Service in a little clinic in “Fomerrey #35”, one of the poorest districts of Monterrey. Also I have been working as a Medical Scribe in Medviks, Telehealth Inc., assisting health providers in the Emergency Departments of Wadley Regional Medical Center (Texarkana, TX), Saint Joseph’s Hospital (Houston, TX), and The Medical Center of Southeast Texas (Port Arthur, TX) with Emergency Medical Record documentation, and if necessary, interpretation.

My plans in the future are to continue my medical training in Surgery, and to carry on with medical research in my future specialization area.

My name is Esther San Roman Rodriguez.

I was raised in Chicago Illinois, spent most of my childhood there and then I moved to Saltillo, Coahuila Mexico where I am currently living.

I am currently in my last year of Medical School in the University of Coahuila and I wish to continue my studies in Obstetrics and Gynecology as soon as I have my general practitioners degree.

Medicine is a field that I am mostly passionate about, I agree to the popular saying that described medicine as the most humane of arts and the most artistic of sciences. It is a window to knowledge, continuous studies, to interpersonal experiences with worldwide culture, people, outstanding patients and cases. It represents an opportunity to help others, huge personal satisfaction, among many other things.

When I am not working, in school or in hospital rotations I enjoy going to the movies, taking hikes, road trips with friends and specially spending time with family.

I have been working in Medviks for 4 years as an interpreter, as a medical scribe and it is a job I can proudly say I enjoy doing, especially now when I am still in my school learning years.

My name is Jesús David González Lugo, I was born in the city of Culiacán Sinaloa, I moved to Monterrey, Nuevo León when I was 2 years old and I have lived in this city ever since.

When I was 15 years old I was diagnosed with Leukemia, after 3 years of struggling with the disease and with the chemotherapy I finally was on complete remission; with this experience I realized that there was a lot to do in this particular field of medicine, that there are people that maybe aren’t as lucky as I was, and need emotional and financial support; and that is when I decided I had to study medicine, in order to help people that were in a similar situation as me and don’t have the same opportunities. My dream is to have an organization where we do free medical brigades and give support to cancer patients, not only medically, but also emotionally which is the most difficult part in this type of diseases.

I started medical school at Universidad de Monterrey in 2007 and graduated on May 2012, I have had the opportunity to do clinical rotations in different local hospitals, and I also had the opportunity to go to Brno, Czech Republic in 2010 due to a scholarship where I did some research about HIV medication Truvada. In 2013 I did clinical rotations at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, TX.

In 2012 I was able to be on the organization committee of a Student Organization called Jalpem in which we did free medical brigades in poor places of the state of Nuevo León, this is a very fulfilling activity and doing this made me reassure what I wanted to do in my life.

My most memorable rotation is when I was in Pediatric Hematology, in the field I want to pursue a medical residency.

I have worked here in this company as an interpreter, as a medical scribe and recently in the Quality Department.

My name is Montserrat Villalobos Meza. I studied my sophomore year of high school in La Verne, California. I studied medicine at the Universidad Autonoma de Coahuila in Saltillo, Coahuila Mexico. I made my internship at the Hospital Universitario de Saltillo. Nowadays I am at my social service in Arteaga, Coahuila Mexico. My nearest goal is to enter on my first to the year of residency at surgery. I love to travel and learn about other cultures.

What I hope of this job it is to improve my English, to know the difference between the hospitals in Mexico and USA.

Hello everyone, my name is Rafael Guerra Villarreal, and I’m currently working as a medical scribe at Medviks.

I studied medicine in Universidad de Monterrey here in Monterrey, Mexico and graduated in 2010. During my years as student, I have had rotated in a number of hospitals throughout the city. Some private hospitals such as Christus Muguerza Alta Especialidad and Christus Muguerza Sur, as well as some public hospitals from the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social.

I had my internship rotation in Hospital Christus Muguerza here in Monterrey and afterwards performed my social service within my university. In the university I managed to help with investigation programs, helped develop and direct a new system for students with scholarships where I was in charge of over 300 of them, and also aided with public brigades to help provide medical services to those who needed it after an unfortunate natural event which lead to the destruction of part of the city.

After my social service, I took a medical course from Spain and have been awarded a medical license that certifies me as a doctor and permits me to work in that country. Currently I’m preparing myself to do my medical specialty in Germany as an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor.

I have been working in Medviks for almost 2 years and have learned a lot during my time here. I’m glad to have the opportunity to work with many doctors and most of all to be able to learn from them as much as I can.

During my medical training, I was an Instructor for the Physiology Department of my university from 2006 to 2009, and I was the head of the Dissemination Committee for the student work group “Stroke: Embolias y Derrames” from 2007 to 2009. I participated in the local International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) Organizing Committee (OC) for the IFMSA’s General Assembly of the March Meeting in 2008, of which my city was a proud host. I also had the possibility to participate in a one-month clinical rotation in the Department of Internal Medicine at “Hôpital de la Conception”, through an exchange program with the “Faculté de Médecine”, in Marseille, France, in July 2008.

After graduation, I performed my year of Medical Social Service in the city of Sabinas Hidalgo, Nuevo León, México, from August 2010 to July 2011. Sabinas has a population of around 32000 people and is located to the North of Monterrey. It has a General Hospital and several small public clinics. Myself and another graduating doctor were in charge of one of these clinics, and attended a community of approximately ___ people. I considered the mandatory Social Service year not as a burden, but both a challenge and an enriching incident, as this represents for doctors in Mexico one of our first experiences of medical decision-making in the real-world setting. I received my MD Degree and Medical License in January 2012.

Upon completing my General Medicine education, I worked as a general practitioner in the Occupational Health area (November 2011 to May 2012) for the Apodaca branch of “DENSO Mexico, S.A. de C.V.”, a subdivision of “DENSO International America”, an automotive manufacturing company. Since October 2012, I have been participating in clinical research programs at Cardiolink Clin Trials in Monterrey, Mexico, as a Sub-investigator.

My plans are to continue my medical training in Dermatology, and to carry on with medical research in my future specialization area.

My name is Rubén Rodríguez Villarreal, 25 years old, born and raised in Monterrey, Nuevo León. I lost my father in a vehicle accident when I was 13. At  17 years, I joined a catholic scout type group called “Squadron” were they encourage leadership and survival skills using a method similar to the military. This group gave me the discipline and values require to convince me I to seek a career were I could help others.  Squadron was a good place to provide my medical knowledge and share my skills designing first aid coursers in the wild. After finishing my career as a medical doctor at UdeM (University from Monterrey) and seeking for a new challenge I wanted to make my medical residency as a surgeon at a foreign country and chose Germany. Currently, I´m taking an intensive course in german and helping out Squadron every time I can while working at Medviks.
